Independence Day Celebration – 2026
"Freedom is not a gift from the past, but a responsibility to build a brighter future!" Silas International School, Udupi, celebrated the 80th Independence Day of the nation with immense patriotic fervour, joy and enthusiasm. The celebration was a beautiful reflection of the nation’s hard-earned freedom and the values of unity, equality, sacrifice and responsibility that continue to shape our country. Mr. L. Krishna Mohan, Chief Manager, Canara Bank, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest with other dignitaries Ms. Sharlet Maben, Trustee Crystal Education Trust, Ms. Jacintha D'Costa Principal, Silas International School and Dr. George, Principal Silas PU College. The unfurling of the National Flag marked the beginning of the celebrations, filling the atmosphere with pride and patriotism. The significance of Independence Day was beautifully expressed by a PU student, reminding everyone of the sacrifices of our freedom fighters and the responsibility of the younger generation to uphold the spirit of freedom. The Chief Guest shared an inspiring Independence Day message, encouraging students to become responsible, compassionate and patriotic citizens. He also reiterated that as students their first duty was to study with interest and concentration while the government had lot of schemes and policies that would help them to study further without any hassles. The cultural presentation by students of Grades 6 to 10 further brought alive the spirit of the nation through a group song, dance, speeches and an inspiring skit. On occasion of Independence Day, competitions were conducted in the school and the Principal gave away the prizes to the winners during the event. In her address, the Principal reminded the young audience that Independence Day is undoubtedly a day to celebrate, with songs, dances and sweets but it is also a day to introspect and ask ourselves if we are doing everything possible to protect the freedom that we have received as a gift from our forefathers. To ensure that we make a better India, we must ensure that our systems remain corruption free, and remain fair and accessible to every citizen, whether rich or poor. The Principal advised the students to study honestly, refuse shortcuts and above all serve the nation with integrity and commitment. The programme concluded with the School Anthem, leaving everyone with a renewed sense of pride in being Indians and a commitment to contribute towards a stronger and united India. Independence is the very essence of our Nation. Jai Hind! Jai Bharat!
